PASSION IS RELENTLESS DETERMINATION TO ACHIEVE WHATEVER IS MOST IMPORTANT TO YOU...and enjoying the journey along the way
Approximately 35 years ago, I decided to become a basketball official. I played American football and tried to play basketball but I was not athletic enough nor was I tall enough. I was nevertheless determined to continue to be part of basketball. I worked relentlessly to achieve success but it wasn’t easy. I was a decent athlete, playing high school and college level American football but I knew that basketball was my first love.
I worked hard to get into high school basketball at a varsity level and then set my eyes on the collegiate level. During my journey, I became frustrated, tired and lost my focus many times. I participated in many camps, education days and became a real lover of the learning process. It was at that moment that I realised that I wanted to be an official.
Since 1989, I have taken this game seriously and I have accumulated a lot of experience. I have been faced with many obstacles and I have had the fortitude and the resilience to persevere. It is only my passion for the game and the love to educate others that has brought me to this point. Now, I am not running the floor as often but I have chosen to give back to the community through advising, educating, teaching and mentoring the next generation of referees.
I hope that I can find a way to help you navigate through the journey of basketball officiating wherever you are at. I will meet you there, help you find the right coach and mentor to get you where you want to be.
If you have any questions, ideas, or require anything related to basketball referees, I will endeavour to help by pointing you in the right direction. If you are looking for referees for your school games, tournaments, special events Downunder or in the USA, please do not hesitate to contact me, I will try my best to add value.
